Frequently Asked Questions
How do I refer a child? If you are referring your child privately you can contact me in confidence directly for an initial assessment. I will meet with you to discuss the child's history and presenting problems at which point I will make an assessment of the child's needs. Details of how we will proceed will be discussed during this initial meeting.
How many sessions will a child need? This will vary according to each child and the complexity of the problem. Some children will benefit from a short intervention from anything between 12 and 24 sessions. Children with a complex history and needs can require more but this will be reviewed, discussed and agreed as the therapy progresses.
Where will therapy take place? If a parent or carer privately refers, meetings and therapy will take place within the child's school or possibly within the caregivers home. Therapy sessions will occur at the same place, day and time each week. The room where the therapy will take place must be free from interruptions so that the child feels free to express themselves.

How does Play Therapy work in a school or within other organisations? If a child is referred via a school or other organisation I will meet with the appropriate member of staff (usually the SENCo in schools) and then the parent / carer to gather information about the child as this will enable me to make a thorough assessment of their needs.
Following the referral I will meet with the child. I will then liaise with both the appropriate professionals (for instance, SENCo, Teacher, Social Worker) and the child's parents on a regular basis to discuss changes, progress and recommendations. Therapy will take place on the premises once a week, in the same confidential space and at the same day and time. The therapist will provide all of the specialist resources required. I can offer a complimentary presentation for staff illustrating the benefits of Play Therapy and explain how it will work within your organisation. Further information regarding the fee structure and those services provided can be found here. Please contact me if you require any further information regarding Play Therapy in schools or other organisations. |
